Castell de Montclar dominates the village of Montclar d'Urgell in Lleida province, built upon ruins of an ancient Roman tower and showcasing Catalan Renaissance elegance from the 16th and 17th centuries. First documented in 981, the fortress evolved through multiple phases of construction from the 13th through 16th centuries under lords including Arnau Mir de Tost and the Cabrera family. Declared a historic-artistic monument of national character, interior spaces include a music room, library, dining hall of lords, cellar, and historic prison. The De Miguel family opens this recently restored castle to the public on Sundays and holidays, with guided tours available by arrangement, offering visitors insight into centuries of Catalan feudal life.
