Castell de Mont-roig crowns a summit at 301 metres altitude in Darnius, Gerona province, commanding incomparable views between the Ricardell and Llobregat rivers. Documented in 1070, the castle has undergone continuous reforms due to various medieval conflicts, including the War of Rosellón, when it was ultimately destroyed and abandoned. The site retains several wall sections and remains of three towers, designated a Cultural Asset of Interest since 1988. Accessed via a forest track from Darnius, the castle's reddish-hued walls and clay terrain evoke its historical and geographical significance in the Catalan medieval landscape.
