Castell de Medinyà

Castell de Medinyà occupies a hillside position in Sant Julià de Ramis, northeast of the city of Girona, overlooking the Ter River's left bank. Documented since 1017, the castle rose to prominence in the 12th century under lords like Ramon Dalmau de Midiano and was formally mentioned in 1328 when Infante John transferred its jurisdiction. The present structure reflects centuries of evolution, featuring Renaissance and Neoclassical reforms that transformed it from a defensive fortress into an elegant lordly manor. Notable architectural elements include interior and exterior porticoed galleries surrounding a central courtyard; portions of the original medieval walls survive, particularly on the southwest and south sides, alongside the base of the former church bell tower.
