Castell de Llordà

Castell de Llordà crowns a prominent hilltop in Pallars Jussà, Lleida, commanding strategic views across the surrounding frontier territory. This high-medieval fortress was constructed over several centuries between the 9th and 12th centuries, showcasing high-medieval and Romanesque architectural forms. First recorded in 961 and explicitly documented by 1033, the castle gained significance when Arnal Mir de Tost established his residence there following his appointment by the Count of Urgell to govern the repopulation of Pallars Jussà. The castle complex featured an outer enclosure housing the Church of Saint Saturninus and a collegiate complex, alongside areas that served as garrison and original settlement for the village before it relocated downhill. This site represents a pivotal stronghold in Catalonia's medieval frontier expansion.
