Castell de l'Aranyó is a stone fortress rising on rock formations at 465 meters elevation in the Segarra region, with documented references beginning in the 14th century and territorial mentions dating to 1120. The castle underwent substantial reforms in 1569, transforming it from a defensive fortress into a residential palace displaying Romanesque and late Gothic architectural elements across its walls and towers. Originally held by the Montsuar nobles and passing through the Altariba and Agulló families, the castle became the birthplace of Catalan writer Manuel de Pedrolo in 1918, whose family acquired the estate in the 19th century. This layered history reflects the castle's evolution from military stronghold to cultural symbol within Catalonia's artistic heritage.
