Castell de Bellpuig

Castell de Bellpuig is an 11th-century fortress in Bellpuig, Lleida, serving as the central castle of the barony established in 1139. First documented in 1079, it was transformed from a military stronghold into a permanent residence of the Barons of Bellpuig during the 12th and 13th centuries. Renovated in the late 15th century, the castle's remains today consist of preserved walls from the 12th century. According to local legend, the site features a historic mine running from the Pla de la Quintana to the castle, adding to its mystique. The fortified structure exemplifies medieval Catalan defensive architecture and continues to stand as a testament to the region's feudal heritage.
