Castell d'Alfofra, also known as El Castillo de Aljofra, stands at 1,100 meters altitude in Confrides, Marina Baja—making it the highest castle in Alicante province. Built in the 13th century, this small but strategically positioned fortress dominates the entire Guadalest valley and commands views to the Mediterranean Sea. First referenced in 1264 when King Jaime I seized it from Muslim forces, the castle features a double polygonal enclosure protected by square and semicircular towers. Though currently in progressive ruin, the fortress remains a testament to medieval fortification design and its vital role in controlling vital passes through the region.
