Castell d'Alfarb

Castell d'Alfarb is a medieval fortification in the Ribera Alta region of Valencia province, featuring Islamic architectural traditions and Roman origins. The tower stands at the highest point of the town of Alfarb, originally overlooking the Magre river, though now partially obscured by surrounding private homes. Dating its present form to the Muslim period, the castle was transformed by James I into a seigniorial fortress under Pero de Montagut, brother of the Bishop of Saragossa, consolidating it as the most emblematic monument of Alfarb. The square tower and surviving walls are designated as Cultural Heritage by the Valencian Generalitat's Department of Cultural Heritage. This military building showcases centuries of Iberian architectural evolution, from Roman foundations through Islamic refinement to medieval Christian adaptation.
