Castell d'Àger crowns a hilltop in Àger, Lleida, dominating the Pyrenean landscape alongside the monastery of Sant Pere. Conquered by Arnau Mir de Tost in the early 11th century, the castle gained prominence when Arnau and his wife Arsenda donated it to the abbey of Sant Pere d'Àger in 1068, making the abbot its feudal lord. The castle subsequently passed to the Cabrera viscounts and later the counts of Urgell. During the Reapers' War (1640–1652), Àger defended itself against the Spanish crown. Today, its remains preserve the essence of medieval religious and military authority, reflecting the intertwined roles of nobility and monasticism in medieval Catalonia.
