Cardona Castle is one of Spain's most well-preserved medieval fortresses, built in 886 by Count Guifré el Pilós and completed over subsequent centuries. Dominating a hilltop overlooking the Cardener river valley, the castle features remarkable Romanesque and Gothic architecture alongside the 11th-century Torre de la Minyona, standing 15 metres high. The site houses the collegiate church of San Vicente, an outstanding Romanesque structure from the 11th century with exceptional architectural proportions. Today, Cardona Castle operates as a Parador hotel, preserving this emblematic historical site for visitors to experience its medieval grandeur and strategic landscape.
