Burg Rothenfels is a meticulously preserved medieval rock castle perched 100 meters above Oberwölz in Styria. Founded in 1007, it rises dramatically from an iron-rich reddish rock formation overlooking the Wölzertal valley. The castle served as an administrative center and seat of jurisdiction for surrounding territories until 1803, then passed through private hands before being acquired by the Steiner family in 1968. Now offering guided tours from June to September, the castle retains its original medieval character while hosting cultural events and celebrations, providing visitors with an authentic glimpse of medieval fortress architecture.
