Buchanan Castle

Buchanan Castle near Drymen in Glasgow represents the layered history of Scottish Clan Buchanan and their ancestral seat. Originally the stronghold of Clan Buchanan, the property was inherited by the Graham family during the 17th century. After the original castle was destroyed by fire in 1852, James Graham, the 4th Duke of Montrose, commissioned a replacement completed in 1855. Located west of Drymen village, the ruins of this historic castle remain connected to the region's clannish heritage and stand as a testament to the power struggles and transitions that shaped Scottish nobility across centuries.
