Château de Belvoir, also known as Belvoir Castle, rises above the village of Belvoir in the Doubs department within the Jura region. Built at the end of the 12th century on the site of a Gallic oppidum and Roman castrum, the castle was rebuilt in its present form during the 15th and 16th centuries by the Cusance family following destruction by Louis XI. After decades of abandonment in the 19th century, painter Pierre Jouffroy purchased and restored it starting in 1955. Today, 20 fully furnished rooms open to visitors showcase period furniture, paintings, weapons, and decorative objects.
