Atalaya del Infante Don Enrique is a cylindrical watchtower constructed at Puerto de Tíscar, 1,189 meters above sea level near Quesada in Jaén. Built between 1299 and 1302 under order of Infante Don Enrique, son of Ferdinand III the Saint, the tower served to monitor troop movements on routes to the Nasrid Kingdom of Granada. Originally called Torre de las Ahumadas for its signaling fires and smoke signals, the tower features ashlar masonry with a 3.5-meter-high entrance and a barrel-vaulted chamber. This strategic stronghold, paired with the nearby Castle of Tíscar, demonstrates the medieval importance of Quesada as a frontier fortress controlling key mountain passages.
