Ardfry Castle

Ardfry House, located on a peninsula near Oranmore in County Galway, was built in 1770 by politician Joseph Blake, later Baron Wallscourt, on the site of a medieval castle originally owned by the Blake family. The two-storey house with nine bays was designed with a central pediment and raised roofed pavilions, later enhanced with Gothic features including a pointed entrance doorway and battlemented pavilions. Standing on land that previously held a 13th-century deBurgo castle granted to the Blakes in 1612, Ardfry blends medieval heritage with 18th-century elegance. Though currently fenced off and inaccessible due to structural concerns, the castle remains a notable part of Galway's architectural heritage and has appeared in film and various historical auctions.
