Alora Castle

Álora Castle, also known as Castillo de las Torres, perches on a hilltop overlooking the village of Álora in Málaga province, featuring a complex history spanning multiple civilizations. Originally founded on Phoenician and Roman remains, the current castle was constructed in the 9th century by the Moorish Córdoba state during campaigns against rebel forces, with later 10th-century expansions adding defensive enclosures featuring multiple towers. Following its conquest by Christian forces in 1484, a parish church was integrated into the fortress using an existing tower. Today the castle showcases two well-preserved towers and numerous wall sections open to public visitation, offering visitors a tangible connection to centuries of medieval Mediterranean military history.
