Al-Kabsh Citadel

Al-Kabsh Citadel, also called the Citadel of the Ram, occupies a prominent position in Cairo's historic landscape on the Gabal Yashkur hill near the Ibn Tulun Mosque. The neighborhood derives its name from a palace built by Ayyubid Sultan al-Salih Ayyub and is home to the Mosque of Qaytbay, a significant Islamic structure whose madrasa construction was completed in 1475. Though damaged during the 1992 earthquake, the mosque was restored in 2006 and now stands on the highest point of the hill. The site represents an important component of Cairo's medieval Islamic heritage and defensive architecture.
