Airthrey Castle

Airthrey Castle is a picturesque late eighteenth-century estate designed by the renowned Scottish architect Robert Adam in 1791, set within beautifully landscaped grounds on the southern edge of the Ochil Hills overlooking the Forth valley near Stirling. Originally built by Robert Haldane, whose family had owned the estate since 1759, the castle features a distinctive neoclassical design with later nineteenth-century additions. Today it serves as the administrative heart of the University of Stirling, which acquired the property in 1969. Visitors can explore the charming grounds and loch that Haldane created, experiencing an important example of Scottish Georgian architecture and landscape design set amid a tranquil natural setting.
